What is Mantra Chanting?

Research has demonstrated that we have between 45,000 and 51,000 thoughts a day. That’s about 150 to 300 thoughts a moment. Research has likewise demonstrated that for most individuals 80% of those thoughts are damaging.

You heard me talking about affirmations and meditation, over and over again. How important it is to change our mindset if we want to make some changes in our lives. Affirmations make you conscious of your thoughts. To affirm means to state something positively. Affirmations are statements where you assert that what you wish to be real is real. Utilizing favorable affirmations gives you back command of your mind and the information it gets.

If you wish to enhance your life, it’s time to decide to think positively.

Today I want to talk about Mantra chanting that I practice from time to time. It is another way to elevate yourself in a meditative state and activate your energy centers. I encourage you to try chanting during your meditation to engage with your body, mind, soul, and energy.

What does Mantra means?

Mantra, chants or syllable sounds is a powerful way that may help to activate your chakras in your body. “Man” means mind and “tra” means across, so a mantra is something that’s repeatedly crossing your brain to control your thoughts for meditation.

Mantra chanting isn’t the same thing as singing. You don’t have to be perfect, you simply have to want to open your heart in meditative peace and let your spirit spill out. There are 2 languages for chants sung in the Indian tradition:

Sanskrit and Gurmukhi.

Sanskrit is the language of Hindu chanting and is utilized by most yogic traditions except Kundalini Yoga, which is taken from
the Sikh tradition and has chanting sung in the Gurmukhi language.

How to choose a mantra:

Choosing a mantra is an important step. Think of your reasons to chant a mantra. People chant to achieve self-love, connection with other people, better relationships, prosperity, better job opportunities, good business deals, or to connect with their true self.

Chanting can help you achieve these things because it sets you in the right vibration and the right frame of mind. You will be able to listen to your intuition and trust your instincts.

You can choose from hundreds of mantras. Set a clear intention and choose a mantra that will help you get what you want. Listen to a few different mantras and note how you feel when you listen to them. Many are available on YouTube so you can choose which one you can relate and feel comfortable with. When you find a mantra that resonates with you, it will feel right. Your synchronicity with a mantra happens on a vibrational level.

You can choose to work on one single sound/mantra like AUM per session, full sentences mantra chanting or with a series of mantra to activate your chakras like the Bija Mantras, that are ancient tools that tap into energy field that exists in this entire universe

The mantra chanting should be done during meditation with eyes closed, sitting comfortably and straight. You may chant mantras several time as repetition can help you access a meditative state.

The AUM/OM chanting benefits include connection with the cosmos through spiritual awakening. It helps you to connect with your true essence. When you chant Om, you invoke all that you are on the deepest level.

Bija (pronounced BEEJ) means “seed” because they have incredible, cosmic power to unlock growth and healing. The Bija Mantras are one syllable sounds that are meant to activate the chakras along the center line of the body. Chant the bija mantras one at a time while bringing your attention to each chakra location as you go through the bija mantras. At the crown, feel your energy rise up upwards beyond to the universe. Stay here in silence for as long as you feel comfortable. Then slowly bring your attention back down to each location crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root. Ground your energy down through your hips and/or your feet. Slowly open your eyes when you’re ready to come back into the room.

There are 7 Bija mantras associated with the main seven chakras:

LAM (LUM) Red Root Chakra

VAM (VUM) Orange Sacral Chakra

RAM (RUM) Yellow Solar Plexus Chakra

YAM (YUM) Green Heart Chakra

HAM (HUM) Blue Throat Chakra

OM (OM) Indigo Third Eye Chakra

Silence (OM) Purple Crown Chakra

Benefits of Mantra chanting:

Mantra chants are simply a way to invoke sound vibrations in your throat to harness the healing power of that energy and foster transformative growth. Every mantra has its own vibrational frequency and different healing power which channels cosmic energy through our bodies, and generates incredible healing energy. You can use mantra chanting for love, success, health, peace, prosperity, or to connect with yourself

The words of a mantra are a vessel that takes you across the sea of your mind to arrive at the lands of the divine.

Repeating these words aloud has a particular effect on the body. As you state the mantra, your tongue is hitting meridian points on the top of the upper palate of the mouth, which impacts the energies going to other glands like the hypothalamus, the pineal, and the pituitary.

By arousing these meridian points, you’re physically producing the effect of relaxation and a modified state of consciousness.
When you first begin, don’t worry about your pronunciation and don’t fret about hitting the correct notes. All of this will come with time.
Chanting involves so much repeating, that you pick things up sooner or later.

Every morning I do this chanting to Lord Shiva: Karpur Gauram Karunavataram, Sansara Saram Bhujagendra Haram |
Sada Vasantam Hridayaaravinde, Bhavam Bhavani Sahitam Namami || ( It blesses the devotees with good health, wealth, and peaceful life.) and I am telling you my pronunciation is a disaster, but it is the intentions that count.

The most crucial thing in chanting is your heart. Open it up wide.
Ride the sound current like a wave. Feel the infinite divine right here, right now, within of you.

Namaste ❤

PS: This is one of the music I like to listen while doing work. It brings me peace !

Benefits Of Essential Oils et Aromatherapy

Essential oils are compound extracted from plants (flower, herb, and tree parts, like bark, roots, peels, and petals). The cells that give a plant its fragrant smell are its “essence.” When an essence is extracted from a plant, it becomes an essential oil. The unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence.

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic essential oils derived from plants for the purpose of enhancing the well being of ones physical and psychological health. By inhaling essential oils, nerves in the nose trigger powerful brain responses like your limbic system (which plays a role in your emotions) and impact your hypothalamus (creating a feel-good brain chemicals like serotonin); all of that would send healing to the body.

Topical application allows essential oils to quickly enter the bloodstream by being absorbed through skin tissue.

What are the main benefits of Aromatherapy?

  • Aromatherapy can reduce pain, as the oils can be absorbed through the skin. Many essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties that can prevent the development of certain illnesses, it can improve the immune system as essential oils that are breathed in enter the lungs and are then absorbed into the bloodstream.
  • Essential oils helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and can be used as a part of your diet to help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
  • Essential oils improve the mood and set a positive atmosphere. Scents are powerful stimuli that directly enter the brain, triggering intense emotional responses. By inhaling essential oils, your brain will signal certain emotions that can leave you feeling energized, optimistic and hopeful. These essential oils can be added to a hot bath or used in an oil diffuser.
  • Essential oils have many uses not only aromatherapy, it can be used as a natural mosquito repellent and extending the shelf life of food.
  • Essential oils has been shown to improve the sleep quality of people.
  • Essential oils might ease stress, anxiety and depression – very useful nowadays with all the uncertainties
  • Essential oils also can ease the side effect of cancer treatment

How to use Essential oils?

With a diffuser: it is a device that disperses essential oils into the air. There are several types of essential oil diffusers that you can use for this, like ceramic diffuser, electric, ultrasonic …

With a nebulizer: since a nebulizing diffuser does not use water to dilute the essential oils, it is a much more potent therapeutic aromatic experience. No heat is required so the natural chemical structure of the essential oil is not altered in any way. Because the diffuser uses glass the essential oil never comes into contact with plastic so each particle of the essential oil reaches you in the natural state and provides you with all of the natural therapeutic benefits.

You can simply inhale: the easiest method of inhalation is to open a bottle of pure essential oil and inhale deeply a few times. But don’t let the undiluted oil touch your skin. For the steam method you’ll need a bowl of hot water and a towel. Place the bowl on a table and add a few drops of essential oils. Place a towel over your head and the bowl. Close your eyes and deeply inhale the steam for several minutes. Repeat a few times throughout the day. Some essential oils can be dangerous and you shouldn’t use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Not all the oils is suitable for small children and pets as well.

Dry evaporation: This method only requires some type of dry material such as a cotton ball or fabric. Add a few drops of essential oil to the material. Hold this to your nose and inhale or allow the scent to disperse naturally. You can add the material to the vents in your car, your shirt collar, or your pillowcase. You can also buy a diffuser necklace pendant, I got one at Christmas and it is a brilliant idea to smell fresh all day!

On your skin: You can use essential oils for skincare and massage in a variety of ways. Dilute essential oils with a carrier oil and apply the mixture to your skin. Follow a recipe or your intuition to make a rollerball blend so that you have your favorite combination on hand. Carrier oils will reduce skin sensitivity and also increase absorption through skin tissue

Types of carrier oils:

  • olive oil
  • coconut oil
  • avocado oil ( this is the one I use 🙂 )
  • almond oil
  • jojoba oil

Focus on areas of muscular pain, tightness, and tension. You can also gently rub the oil into pressure points such as your temples, wrists, and third eye. You can also use the oils to massage your feet and place a few drops around your nose. Another option is to add essential oils to your favorite cosmetic products, such as toners, serums, and muscle rubs. But always take care to dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil first.

In a bath or shower: while it’s best to store essential oils outside of the bathroom due to heat and humidity, you’ll find a lot of uses for them here. You can add a few drops of essential oils to your shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. To inhale essential oils while you shower, add a few drops to the shower walls and inhale deeply as you shower; Happy mood while showering and also it is very good for the sinus. Or add a few drops of diluted essential oil to a warm washcloth that can be used for inhalation and to gently exfoliate your body. Dilute a few drops of essential oils with a carrier oil before adding it to your bathwater.

In a humidifier: If you choose to add essential oils to your humidifier, check with the manufacturer’s directions. Some ultrasonic humidifier manufacturers do not recommend the use of essential oils. To use essential oils in a humidifier, add a few drops into the water tank. The oil will naturally vaporize throughout the room. For best results, use a cool mist and clean your humidifier regularly.

Why meditation is important?

I decided to do this blog about meditation because loads of people hear that it is something that we should practice daily because of its benefits but don’t really follow up with it because they either don’t do it well, and don’t feel any change or they don’t believe that staying in a quiet space for a few minutes daily will really change their world. I am not judging anybody because I was like that before I became a Reiki Practitioner.

So what is Meditation?

Meditation is a mental concentration that helps to control our mind and our thoughts while engaging in mental activity either focusing on specific thoughts or focusing on nothing at all. When meditating, we connect with the universe within our physical bodies, emotional bodies, and mental bodies or our body and mind. It brings together and centers the interaction of these 3 different bodies with our spiritual body or our soul.

It has been proven that physically, meditation affects us in many wonderful ways. It increases the production and flow of endorphins ~ calm and soothes the body. It lowers also our blood pressure and helps to re-align our brain patterns so our body begins healing itself. Reiki also is a powerful energy healing technique.

Emotionally, meditation can help us to eliminate negative thoughts, worries, anxiety, all factors that can prevent us from feeling happy. It helps to reduce the intensity and frequency of our resentments and fear, moving toward a more consistent feeling of caring, compassion, and love.

Mentally, meditation is said to improve focus, mental clarity and reduce or eliminate stress. It allows us to detach from our addiction to thinking too much, our re-living of past events and projecting our worries and fears into the future. It can also give you peace, which I feel is desperately needed in today’s society.

Meditation will help us to practice re-directing our energy in a positive way.

“The past is already gone, the future is not yet here. There’s only one moment for you to live.”

Buddha

We need to be aware that thinking negative thoughts, feeling angry, having resentments and fear, or act selfishly and destructively, is creating that same type of environment and world around us.

By daily meditating, we will become a calmer person; we will gain mental serenity in each task we perform and it will help us re-condition our mind in a positive way, to improve the quality of our effect upon others and ourselves.

So why not meditating daily? Meditation is free, it’s powerful, can be practiced by anyone, everywhere, is extremely beneficial and can help us to feel happier. So make it a priority to add Meditation to your daily task.

It is important to remember that the results are different from person to person and before you can see the results it may takes some time.

How to start meditating?

  • You need to find a special space for meditation at the start after you will be able to do it anywhere. But if you are new, find your quiet place, where you feel good. Start your practice while in a position that comes naturally to you; it can be sitting on the floor on a mat, or lying down, or kneeling down or standing up. You don’t need to be in the lotus position to meditate. My favorite place is lying down on my bed as I put crystals healing on my body while meditating.
  • Find the right time to meditate, try to do it each day at the same time, dusk and dawn are a great time but it is up to you. You want to feel comfortable and you want to have peace of mind, so if you have children wait until they are gone to school. “Your Me Time!”. The advantage of doing it at the same time also is that your body will slow down faster… Remember we are creatures of habits!
  • You can also light a candle, use incense, put light music or use guided meditation on Youtube… There are tons of them.
  • If you are not using guided meditation, when you are in the right position, just concentrate on your breathing… deep breathing coming from your stomach. Inhale deeply through your nose. Hold your breath as you count to 5. Release the air via a slow, deep exhale through your nose. Do it a few times until you feel very relaxed. Oxygen revitalizes you, resets your mind, body and spirit and allows you to feel better. You can close your eyes or focus on something, maybe the candle… It is up to you.
  • When you are in that state, try to remove all the thoughts from your head and you should feel your body getting heavier, your head, your neck, your shoulders, your spine, your legs…. Be conscious of your environment but don’t let it bother you and let your mind wander. You can create your happy place, it might be somewhere you know, or maybe a fantasy place. Make it a safe place where you can go whenever you want to find peace. The more you’ll practice and the more you’ll shape this sacred place, in there you can tell your intentions, you can see yourself and/or your family/friends in the future. There is no right or wrong way to do meditation… Just let yourself go!!! Or if you prefer just focus on something that is bothering you, and ask for answers. In that state of unconscious mind you will find what you are looking for if you practice regularly.

So you need to decide yourself if you want to take this habit of meditating each day! As I said there is no right way and no wrong way. You will find what suits you better and what works for you. It may be helpful to keep a brief journal to record any insights that arise during your practice.

People meditate for different reasons: to feel calm, to diminish stress or pain, to get through a crisis, or to engage in spiritual practice. Through meditation, you attain the power to control your thoughts, and on occasion stop them completely. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t reach a silent mind in the first few sessions. It takes time and practice. Meditation is a simple and spontaneous action. Unfortunately, our mind is used to complication and it takes time to unlearn bad habits.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

Mahatma Gandhi

I do believe meditation is very important in our daily lives! I see too many people living in the rat race and not enjoying life to the fullest! Here are 2 questions for you:

Have you tried meditation before? If not, why not?

If you practice regular meditation, what kind of meditation you do?

Are You Using Chia Seeds?

What are chia seeds?

Chia seeds are tiny black seeds from the plant Salvia Hispanica, they are related to the mint and are among the healthiest foods on the planet. They are black in color and they have a mild, nutty flavor. They are a whole-grain food, usually grown organically and are also non-GMO and naturally gluten free. They have become one of the most popular superfoods in the health community. They’re easy to digest when prepared properly and is a very versatile ingredient that can be easily incorporated to recipes. I love them in my porridge and salad! If you mix some seeds with water they can replace eggs in vegan cooking.

Chia Seeds history

Back in the day chia seeds were also a very important food for the Aztecs and Mayans, they also prized them for their ability to provide sustainable energy. The word “chia” is the ancient Mayan word for “strength.” Despite their ancient history as a dietary staple, only recently chia seeds became recognized as a modern-day superfood. In the past few years, they have exploded in popularity and are now consumed by health aware people all over the world.

Don’t be fooled by their size, these tiny seeds are packed with nutrients that can have important benefits for your body and brain. Chia seeds benefits are plentiful.

Chia seed ice-cream
  1. They are one of nature’s high-antioxidant foods which speed up the skin’s repair systems and prevent further damage or aging
  2. High fiber- One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds contains 12 grams of carbs, 11 of those grams are fiber, which your body doesn’t digest. Fiber neither raises blood sugar nor requires insulin to be disposed of. Although it belongs to the carbohydrate family, its health effects are drastically different from those of digestible carbs like starch and sugar. The digestible carb content is only one gram per ounce (28 grams), which is very low. This makes chia seeds a low-carb friendly food. Fiber also feeds the friendly bacteria in your intestine, which is important. keeping your gut flora well fed is very crucial for your health. Chia seeds are 40% fiber by weight, making them one of the best sources of fiber in the world. A high fiber diet also reduces rick of constipation and promotes for a healthy digestive tract.
  3. Can help treat diabetes and several chronic deceases- High fasting blood sugar levels are a typical symptom of untreated type 2 diabetes, also consistently high fasting blood sugar levels are associated with an increased risk of several chronic diseases, including heart disease. Temporary spikes in blood sugar levels after meals may also have harmful health effects when excessively high on a daily basis. Animal studies have found that chia seeds may improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control, stabilizing blood sugar levels after meals. Also a few human studies support this by showing that eating bread that contains chia seeds lowers the post-meal rise in blood sugar compared to bread that doesn’t include any chia seeds.
  4. Chia seeds are among the top plant-based protein which helps you build muscle and lose weight. Chia seeds have a good balance of essential amino acids, so your body should be able to make use of their protein content. Protein has various health benefits and is by far the most weight loss friendly dietary nutrient. A high protein intake lowers appetite and has been shown to reduce obsessive thoughts about food by 60% and the desire for night time snacking by 50%. Chia seeds are an excellent protein source especially for people who eat little to no animal products.
  5. High in nutrients which are important to bone health- Chia seeds are high in several nutrients that are important for bone health. This includes calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and protein. The calcium content is particularly impressive 18% of the recommended daily intake in a single ounce (28 grams). Gram for gram, chia seeds are higher than most dairy products. As a result, chia seeds may be considered an excellent source of calcium for people who don’t eat dairy or are lactose in tolerant. However, chia seeds also contain phytic acid, which reduces calcium absorption to some extent.

It is very important that you mix chia seeds with another food or liquid. DO NOT swallow dry chia seeds, because when the seeds are mixed with water or any liquid they form a thick gel.

Are you using Chia seeds? And how do you like to take them?
