Tea Tree Oil and its Benefits

What is Tea Tree Oil?

Melaleuca Alternifolia Plant

It comes from the leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia, a small tree native to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. Tea Tree Oil is also known as melaleuca oil. It has also been used as a traditional medicine by Aborigines for centuries. These native Australians crush tea tree leaves to extract the oil, which is then inhaled to treat coughs and colds or applied directly to the skin for healing. You could also get the essential oils by steaming the leaves.

Tea Tree Flower
Tea Tree Leaves

Description of the tree– It is an upright evergreen shrub with small, aromatic (when crushed), needle-like leaves and showy flowers in late spring and summer. Borne along the stems, the blooms may be single or double, in shades of red, pink or white depending on the varieties. The plant can grow from 6 ft to 10 feet tall

There are many benefits of tea tree oil. Benefits such as:

  1. Hand Sanitizer– Studies have shown that it kills several common bacteria and viruses responsible for causing illness, such as E. coli and H. influenzae.
  2. Insect Repellant– One study found that 24 hours after being treated with tea tree oil, cows had 61% fewer flies than cows not treated with tea tree oil. A test-tube study also revealed that the oil had a greater ability to repel mosquitoes than DEET which is the most common active ingredient in regular insect repellents.
  3. Natural deodorant– The oil’s antibacterial effects help to control underarm odor from perspiration. The sweat itself does not smell, it is when secretions from your sweat glands mix with the bacteria on your skin which produces a medium to strong odor. Your underarm area contains a large amount of these glands and is one of the main responsibilities for body odor. The oil’s bacteria-fighting properties let us use it as a natural alternative to regular deodorants and antiperspirants.–
  4. Aids in wound healing– Research has shown that tea tree oil helps reduce inflammation and triggers the activity of white blood cells that are helpful in the healing process. A few drops of tea tree oil can be added when dressing a wound.–
  5. Fight Acne– In one study, applying a 5% tea tree gel to acne lesions was shown to be more than three times as effective at reducing the number of lesions than a placebo. It was almost six times as effective in reducing severity of the acne. You could also make your own acne treatment by mixing one part tea tree oil with nine parts water and applying the mixture to affected areas with a cotton swab once or twice a day. Tea tree oil might work slower than benzoyl peroxide, but it seems to be less irritating to the skin. When applied twice daily for 45 days, tea tree oil reduces several acne symptoms, including acne severity. Those using the tea tree oil also experienced fewer side effects.
  6. Get rid of nail fungus (onychomycosis)- Fungal nail infections are quite common. Although they aren’t dangerous, they can be repulsive. There are medications that treat nail fungus, though some people prefer a natural approach. Tea tree oil has been shown to help get rid of nail fungus when used alone or in combination with other natural remedies. You can use a few drops of tea tree oil alone or mix it with an equal amount of coconut oil and apply it to the affected area, lower concentrations of tea tree oil do not seem to be as effective. Be sure to wash your hands immediately after applying in order to avoid spreading the fungus to other areas.
  7. Soothe skin inflammation– A common form of skin irritation is contact dermatitis, which is when skin comes in contact with an allergen, like: nickel. Exposure to the allergen leads to red, itchy and painful skin. Tea tree oil may help quell inflammation, possibly due to its high concentration of terpinen-4-ol, a compound with anti-inflammatory properties. It may also provide relief from bug bite reactions by reducing the itching, redness and swelling that occurs when your body releases histamine to defend against the insect’s saliva.
  8. Treats Athlete Foot (Tinea Pedis)- It is a contagious fungal infection on the feet that can also spread to the toenails and hands. Symptoms include peeling, cracking, blisters and redness. Anti-fungal medications are considered standard treatments for athlete’s foot. Yet studies suggest that tea tree oil may also be an effective alternative for relieving symptoms.

Never digest Tea Tree Oil! Although Tea Tree Oil is relatively safe it may be toxic if swallowed. Also if it is your first time using the oil test a drop or two on a small patch of skin before use.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil and Its Benefits

Eucalyptus is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to Australia. Chinese, Indian Ayurvedic, Greek and other European styles of medicine have incorporated it into the treatment of a range of conditions for thousands of years. There are 400 different species of eucalyptus. Eucalyptus globulous is also known as Blue Gum, it is also the main source of eucalyptus oil used globally. The oil is used as an antiseptic, a perfume, an ingredient in cosmetics, a flavoring and in dental preparations.

How the oil is made:

Leaves are distilled to extract the oil, which is colorless liquid with a strong, sweet, woody scent. It contains flavonoids and tannins; flavonoids are plant-based antioxidants and tannins may help to reduce inflammation.

DO NOT TAKE ORALLY! Although eucalyptus oil has many benefits, the undiluted form can be toxic if you take it orally. Just 2-3 milliliters can trigger dizziness, drowsiness and loss of muscle control. Five milliliters or more can lead to nervous system shut down or even coma. Always dilute the oil with a carrier oil before use.

How the Eucalyptus plant look like:

The eucalypti grow rapidly, and many species attain great height. The giant gum tree, or mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans), of Victoria and Tasmania, is one of the largest species and attains a height of about 90 meters and a circumference of 7.5 meters. Many species continually shed the dead outermost layer of bark in flakes, whereas other species have thick textured bark. The leaves are leathery and often hang vertically; most species are evergreen.

The flower petals cohere to form a cap when the flower expands. The capsule fruit is surrounded by a woody cup-shaped receptacle and contains numerous minute seeds. Possibly the largest fruits from 5 to 6 cm in diameter are from  Silverleaf eucalyptus. The leaf glands of many species, especially black peppermint tree and Tasmanian Blue Gum, contain a volatile aromatic oil known as eucalyptus oil. Tasmanian Blue Gum, northern gray ironbark, and other species yield what is known as Botany Bay kino, an astringent dark reddish resin, obtained in a semifluid state from incisions made in the tree trunk.

Eucalyptus is believed to have a number of medicinal properties, although not all of them have been confirmed by research.

  1. Antimicrobial properties: By the end of the 19th century, eucalyptus oil was used in most hospitals in England to clean urinary catheters. Research is starting to back this practice up.
  2. Colds and respiratory problems: Herbal remedies recommend using fresh leaves in a gargle to relieve a sore throat, sinusitis and bronchitis. Eucalyptus oil vapor acts as a decongestant when inhaled. It is a popular home remedy for colds and bronchitis, a number of cough medications include eucalyptus oil.
  3. Dental care: The antibacterial and antimicrobial potential of eucalyptus has been harnessed for use in some mouthwash and dental preparations. Eucalyptus is active in fighting bacteria that cause tooth decay and periodontitis. An example can be in chewing gum or mouthwash.
  4. Insect and rodent repellent: Eucalyptus is an effective insect repellent and insecticide. Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) is recommended by some as an insect repellant; It is effective at keeping mosquitos away, it is also effective at keeping rats or rodents away. Keep them away with a eucalyptus oil solution, spray it regularly in places where you see them. Many of the chemicals in it, especially 1,8- cineole, deal a powerful punch to pests. The solution is also kinder to the environment than harsh chemicals. EPA’s list of effective, safe insect repellants is a short one, for both chemical and natural methods. A special kind “oil of lemon eucalyptus” has a chemical called PMD that shoos away mosquitos and other bugs.
  5. Stimulating immune system:Researchers found that eucalyptus oil could enhance the immune system’s phagocytic response to pathogens (white blood cells) in a rat model. Phagocytosis is a process where the immune system consumes and destroys foreign particles.
  6. Ease arthritis pain: Eucalyptus is a key ingredient in some topical analgesics. These are pain relievers you can apply directly to your skin, such as sprays and creams. It works by bringing a cold or warm sensation that takes your mind off the pain.
  7. Household grime fighter: The oil is an active ingredient in more than 30 cleansing products approved by the EWG, a non profit environmental research group. In one of the studies, it removed bacteria including E.coli from the steel surfaces.
  8. Loose head lice: Eucalyptus and tea tree oil together as a treatment did two times better than the Pyrethin treatment. It killed 100% of the lice and eggs, in only one single dose while most treatments need several doses. The tests on the skin showed no irritation for adults or children.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint is an aromatic herb in the mint family, it is a hybrid mint that is a cross between spearmint and watermint. It can be found naturally in North America and Europe. Records of the use of mint plants for medical purposes go all the way back to the times of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. It has been used for thousands of years for its pleasant minty taste. The oil extract from the leaves off of the peppermint plant is used for a variety of different purposes. It is usually used in food and beverages and as a fragrance in soap and cosmetics. Peppermint is used as a flavoring in breath mints, candies and other foods, many people also consume peppermint as a refreshing, caffeine-free tea, it is also used for a variety of health conditions and can be taken orally in dietary supplements or topically as skin cream or ointment.

Studies show that used topically it may help soothe tension headaches and cracked nipples from breastfeeding, further research needs to be conducted to confirm. The topical application of peppermint oil is generally safe, although it is necessary to dilute with a carrier oil like almond or jojoba oil. Be careful if you have sensitive skin, it may cause a durning sensation while it naturally alleviates discomfort. The peppermint plant contains antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, antispasmodic and germinative properties.

Clary Sage Essential Oil And Herb

What is Clary Sage?

A flowering herb that is native to the Mediterranean Basin and parts of Europe such as: Hungary, France and Russia. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves and buds of the plant. Cleary Sage is also known as “clear eye” and “eye bright”, because of its traditional use as a treatment for eye health.

Cleary Sage is a herb in the genus salvia which encompasses all the sages, salvia sclarea is a short-lived herbaceous perennial or bennial. The plant also yields an essential oil called clary oil or muscatel sage, which is used for topical afflictions and in aromatherapy applications. The plant also had a history of use as a medicinal, flavoring agent and aromatic.

How to grow Clary Sage; What to do?

It is a biennial that begins as a rosette in the first year and in the second year it will grow a flower stalk. It is a short-lived plant that usually dies after the second year, in some climates it may persist weakly for one or two more seasons. The plant grows and thrives in full sun and well drained soils. Sage can be grown and planted from seeds, cuttings or layered. The most important step to grow Clary Sage is drainage. Pick or snip the clary leaves any time after the plants are 8 inches or taller. Pick the leaves in the morning for the best flavor. Cut flowering stems once the flowers are three-quarters open. Cut the stems off of the flowers near the base of the plant. The herb is deer resistant, so that it is ideal for the naturalized or meadow garden. The plant can spread by seed but volunteer seeding is usually minimal, it attracts honeybees and other pollinators to the garden. The herb requires a chilling period of at least three months to produce flowers, which is why it is not good in hot climates.

What not to do:

Wet sites can rot the plant or severely affect its growth. Clary sage does not do well in a herb or pottage garden or mixed in a border of perennials.

Description of Clary Sage

The plant can grow up to 4 feet tall and it produces purple-blue flower spikes from late spring until mid summer. The flowers are held in panicles which contain 4-6 blooms.

There are two common cultivators of Clary Sage. One called Turkestanica, it is 3 feet tall with longer flower bracts and a more pronounced blue color. The next one is called Vatican, it is a white flowering clary sage herb with the same cultivation as Clary Sage.

The herb has many uses and benefits such as:

  • The herb can be used as a skin balm.
  • The herb can be inhaled as a part of aromatherapy.
  • Stress reduction- Aromatherapy uses the power of scent to calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Your olfactory system directly affects the part of your brain that regulates emotion, which is why scent can trigger memories and feelings of both negative and positive. It also reduces deep tension.
  • Natural anti-depressant- Clary Sage has been tested on both animal and humans to determine its potential benefits as an anti-depressant.
  • Alleviation of menopause symptoms- Used for hot flashes, night sweats, irritability and palpitations.
  • Reducing menstrual cramps- Apply the oil to the needed area of your abdomen and rub for a soothing massage. The natural chemical compounds are among the most soothing and calming compounds.

Lavender, one of the most popular essential oils in the world

The most popular one is Lavandula augustifolia, I was used to have a lot of  plants when I was in France and I still take some from my parents garden, dry the flower, put it in little pouch and then in my wardrobe to have a nice smell.  Lavender is not only a plant with fresh and floral scent but has many benefits for our health and skin care.

Little History :

  • Lavender has been discovered over 2,500 Years ago. The Egyptian used it for mummification and as a perfume
  • The Romans used the lavender oil for bathing, cooking and purifying the air. It got the name from the roman “lavare” which means laver (in french) or to wash (in english)

Today Lavender has so many virtues and that is why we use it in our skincare. It’s been used both cosmetically and therapeutically. It is a powerful antioxydant, antimicrobial, antidepressive , has calming effect and sedative.

  • Lavender restores skin complexion and reduce acne
  • Slows aging process with powerful antioxydants
  • Relieves pain
  • Reduces nervousness and emotional stress
  • Helps healing wounds and burns
  • Improves brain function
  • Can help with hair loss by massaging the scalp

Why choose a nebulizing diffuser?

Why choose Nebulizing diffuser instead of a water diffuser?

💠 Since a nebulizing diffuser does not use water to dilute the essential oils, it is a much more potent therapeutic aromatic experience.

💠 No heat is required so the natural chemical structure of the essential oil is not altered in any way.

💠 Because the diffuser uses glass the essential oil never comes into contact with plastic so each particle of the essential oil reaches you in the natural state and provides you with all of the natural therapeutic benefits.

So how does a nebulizing diffuser work?

🌀When an air current is forced through a small tube, the velocity is increased while the pressure at the exit point is reduced.

🌀That difference in pressure creates a kind of suction that causes the essential oils within a separate glass tube to rise upwards.

🌀As the essential oil rises, a stream of pressurized air hits the essential oil and causes it to atomize into micro-particles that fill the glass reservoir.

🌀Once in the glass reservoir, those tiny particles rise up and are emitted out of the glass cap in a (water-less) mist that is released into the local environment.

🌀The remaining particles of essential oil return to the bottom of the diffuser creating a cycle that will repeat until the oil has been used up completely.

We have the Set of Mantra Essential oils and The Nebulizing Diffuser for a special Price: available now until December 25th 2019 ( midnight PST)
